Sad But True: Helpless Against Copycats

November 12, 2008 by Carolina González

Empress, The Seed – OOAK work by Lorianne Jantti.

This is the first time I write bad words about anyone on the blogosphere, but I couldn’t let this pass unnoticed. This morning I got an email from Amy Sperry Faldet, a flickr friend who owns a group on fairy-themed jewelry. She was worried about some pics she had received for approval from a member, as she found they were blatant copies of another member’s work. The unfortunately copied member is my beloved friend Lorianne Jantti.

I won’t say my personal opinion because at this moment I’m quite pissed and do not want to say anything I would regret in the future, but I’ll let you judge for yourself. Please click on this link to see Lorianne’s work and click on this one to see I Tesori della Luna’s photostream. I know Lorianne’s work very well and I was going to show some compared works, but that person has uploaded her pics in gif format and I don’t know how to upload them here, so you’ll have to go and see for yourself. On the very first page, you can see four pieces she has copied directly from Lorianne.

We have all been inspired by someone, all we all share influences, but from that to simple STEALING DESIGNS there is a long distance!

Unihorn Vial – OOAK work by Lorianne Jantti.

The saddest thing is that probably there is little we can do legally to avoid this, and we are all under the threat of being copied by people who have no respect at all neither for talent not for the hard work than having your own business means. Even though there is nothing we can do legally, we can still brag about it on our blogs!

Please show your support leaving a message for Lorianne on her blog, or you can leave it here and I’m sure she will read it. Forget about the copycat and support the true original artist! Let’s not waste our time with those who should be forgotten, but admiring real art, real talent and real hard work.

My dear Lorianne, your talent and originality is so awesome that will put all your copycats to shame! Never forget that – you are always a hundred steps ahead! I love you very much!!!!

That is terrible there is a seller that pretty much copied everything in my shop and there is nothing I can do about it either.

Carolina thanks for sending Lorianne this support and light.
It is gravely unjust how blatent the copying is and I know only good will come of this. The Universe works sometimes beyond our understanding, but the balance is ALWAYS just and true.
    Blessings,
    Amy

I do support Lorianne with all my heart. Working out your own unique style is time consuming and needs much dedication, and persons who do not respect all that work are just pathetic.

You’re too much Carolina! I know she will fade eventually as none of what she’s doing has any sincerety to it, and I really don’t think it’s so much the physical work that I do which makes people buy it, but the energy that goes into it, which comes from my soul, and no one can steal that.

She also copied and pasted my bio into her site, translated it into italian and put her name on it! Identity thief! lol

Finding out that someone has blatantly copied your work feels like a stab to the heart! We’ve had this happen several times now, and the person even copied the text from our listings! I’m so sorry this has happened to you, Lorianne. All you can do is let karma handle this. In our case, this particular copycat failed to impress buyers with his “knock offs” and is now absent from the art scene.

Carolina, I’ve been busy lately and not posting as much as I should. Your past posts have been amazing! As always, your photos are a feast for the eyes!

Indeed… this is a problem of epic proportions. I see people copying our designs daily. It irks me that there is little we can do!

    Lorianne,

You are exactly right – “the energy that goes into it, which comes from my soul, and no one can steal that”.

I **love** the Lothlorien Necklace you made for me, and I see and feel that energy in it. It’s pleasing to the soul as well as to the eyes!

Copying could never capture the essence of an original creation.

Carolina, thank you for covering this important issue! No artist should be violated this way.

    Rena

Lorianne is so right that it’s her energy and soul that goes into her work that can never be copied by anyone. Your “signature” on your work will always distinguish it from the impostors.
