Pomba Gira Drawing

July 24, 2009 by Carolina González

On my journal. I made a new Pomba Gira incense and drew her beside the recipe, which I have (poorly, I know LOL) erased with Photoshop. I draw a lot on my journal and that drawings never get to you, so here is one. The incense will be listed after the scent sets for a few days, as other Pomba Gira products I am working in as several customers seem to be interested in working with her.

Pomba Gira is the female side of Exú, the brazilian name of Eleggua, and the Queen of Kimbanda and Candomblé, two afro-brazilian religions which share its origins with Santeria, but where Exú and Pomba Gira are the most important figures. What you see in the drawing is her traditional representation – a smokin’-hot demoness with red skin and dark hair. She is also represented as a gypsy woman, and one of her most famous aspects, María Padilla, was the lover of spanish king Pedro I, so she was probably of gypsy or Andalusian origin. She rules love, sexuality and passion, but she is also a fantastic business woman, and the protector of all outsiders, outlaws and people outside the margins of society, as well as of the poor and homeless. She is fierce and highly temperamental, but merciful and protective with those who are her kind.

I am very fond of kimbanda as Elegguá/Exú is considered the highest figure in the pantheon :D – where Eleggua rules, I am happy! I hope soon to find time to talk more about both Kimbanda and Pomba Gira, but today my herbs are awaiting its daily care from Mama Witch!

I bought a figure of a chinese or japanese man holding a fish in one hand and a pipe in the other, he has a beard the man looks to be made of bone or ivory, he is stood on a teak or rosewood stool, I first saw him in a junk shop two weeks ago and I couldnt get him out of my mind, I went back to the junk shop and purchased him he cost me £25 english pounds (roughly $40) the first night I had him in the house I had a dream about him and he talked to me he said his name was Tunchsky thats how he pronounced his name and he said he was a good spirit that lived inside the figure, he wished me no harm, and said he would bring me luck, and that he would prove it, he has a friendly smiling face, and I think positive thoughts when I see him, he looks to be a very old piece of work, although I suspect that his stool is fairly new, and it may have been replaced, any ideas about this friendly spirit? it really has been a most interesting experience, I have always been physic, but this was the most profound experience I have ever had, does anyone know anything about this spirit?

A good, helping spirit is always a good new – congrats for your find! I had never heard of him but that means nothing, helping spirits are not famous :) – they can be the spirit of someone completely anonymous when he was alive. My only advice would be to show him your thankfulness with some candle or incense offerings.

Hello! I found you looking for something on Pomba Gira, was reading your blogs, they’re just wonderful. I just wrote a novel which will be out in a few weeks, called The Summer of Pomba Gira. Would you be interested in a trade? Let me know, if yes, you can decide what you’d want to send in return. Wishing you well and great job on the blog! Oleander

If you ever do a Pomba Gira please let me know.

I am a Palero and have recently been introduced to her in a very synchronistic way.

And your drawing spoke to me.

    Gracias,

    Antonio

Patricia, Pomba Gira atiende a todo el mundo por igual y no tiene prejuicios contra los homosexuales – pero no puedo asegurarte que sólo por pedirle algo ella vaya a concederlo.
